Belonging in Barnsley

Helping young people settle in Barnsley.

With the financial support of first Barnsley Council and more recently BBC Children in Need, we work across the Barnsley district with recently arrived young people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds to find their feet in their new home and to ‘belong to Barnsley’.

Belonging in Barnsley provides challenging and developmental support to young people from marginalised communities. The project aims to connect young people newly-arrived to the country with local, like-minded young people, helping them to achieve their aspirations. Activities can range from learning how to cook on a budget, to local orientation activities helping to increase young people’s knowledge of the local area. The project aims to develop young people’s communication skills, helping them to build new friendships, and encourages them to engage in education, employment or training and reach their full potential.
