FUTURE SELPH

Empowering 16-25-year-olds to overcome life challenges

We know that there is a significant number of young people in Wakefield who have a range of health and social challenges and/or needs that prevents them from being able to manage their lives and engage with services that might support them. We also know that these circumstances go hand in hand with poor mental health.

The Youth Association, Wakefield Health Alliance and Five Towns PCN have developed SELPH – a service funded through the Mental Health Alliance, which supports young adults in the East of the district who have a range of challenges as described above.

The long-term aim of this work is to establish a growth in resilience among young adults in Wakefield, underpinned by improved mental health, broadened ambitions and an increased capacity to overcome life challenges. We intend for this to contribute to a reduction in young adults requiring ongoing support from mental health services and a reduced reliance on support sought through crisis pathways.
