This is the second of 5 tips or suggestions on how to make children and young people’s participation work. Check out part 1 for more details.
1. It is not a wish list.
2. ALWAYS GIVE FEEDBACK!!
Make sure you tell them why a decision is being made. Lets stick with the rollercoaster in the town centre idea. Why can’t this happen? It costs too much money, it would be unsafe, we’d have to knock down the local fish shop, we don’t have a liscense and the list goes on. On a more serious note, we all want feedback when we are asked our opinion. We want to know what’s happened with the information. We want to know that our ideas have been listened to and taken into account especially if our ideas didn’t make the final cut.
Part 3 to follow next week.
