Young people from Barnsley enjoy sunny residential visit

On one glorious, sunny weekend in May, a group of 8 young people from the Monk Bretton area in Barnsley went away on a residential to PGL centre. The whole group showed enthusiasm throughout, and self-confidence in them grew as the 2 days went on. There were some very challenging activities such as abseiling, the giant swing, Jacobs ladder and the high ropes course. These activities proved even harder for those who had a fear of heights, but everyone managed to take part in all of them and really did try their hardest!

Some of the group didn’t know each other before the trip and it was amazing how well they ended up getting along with each other. When they took part in the activities they showed great team work skills by helping and supporting one another. They all pulled together to provide great motivation and advice to others so they could complete tasks. On the climbing wall, for example, everyone stood at the bottom and shouted advice and encouragement to the people who were climbing enabling them to reach the top.

The group also met up with another youth group to play aeroball (basketball on trampolines) and take part in an active quiz. The quiz meant that all groups had to mix with each other and get into teams, this was also successful and showed how well the group could adapt with others.

Overall it was a really enjoyable experience. The group learned that if you work as a team, you can achieve more, and they individually learnt that they should have more self belief. Everyone in the group went home proud of themselves and with new skills and new friends!
