Royston Bike Life – #BikeItDon’tCrimeIt

The Youth Association welcomes a new group of outgoing young people to start a project, with the focus of raising awareness of knife crime with their ‘Bike Life’ group!

Adopt the Outdoors is one of our projects based in Barnsley North East, which has started working with a new ‘Bike Life’ group. This group meets regularly as they share an interest in bikes. They enjoy going on long rides together, learning new tricks on their bikes and exploring new BMX tracks. The group are open to meeting up with new people from a variety of social backgrounds.

With the support from The Youth Association the ‘Bike It don’t Crime It’ group are excited to work alongside our other project in Barnsley centre, which also promotes bike life. In the new year, they will be working together to plan a joint bike ride to raise awareness of knife crime.

The group’s main focus is to raise awareness of knife crime, however, sessions might also include bike safety, bike maintenance, team building skills and laws on the road. This is to ensure that the young people can look after their bikes and that they are safe when out cycling together.

Adopt the Outdoors project is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund that offers multiple opportunities to young people across the North-East of Barnsley. It supports local young people to achieve their ambitions through fun, inspirational, challenging and developmental youth work. The project offers activities to help young people improve access to learning or training and a chance to develop their life skills and keep inter-generational tensions at low levels.
