Youth Social Action, at street level, in Bradford.
Since 2017, we have been working alongside our colleagues, Yorkshire Housing, to support young people in Great Horton. With added support from Leeds Community Foundation, Clarion Futures and the Stronger Communities Team, our work in Bradford now combines regular, street-based engagement and activity with social action programmes.
Aimed at young people who may not traditionally take part in volunteering, the project provides street-based training workshops in local outdoor spaces, as a way of inspiring interest in social action work and teaching simple practical skills. Young people involved in the project and then supported to carry out their own positive project in their own area. As well as developing their skills, attitudes and aspirations, young people are empowered to make decisions and build stronger relationships with other groups in their community.
