On yer bike!

The Monk Bretton bike project group last Thursday

Last Thursday, during half-term week, six young people from Monk Bretton in Barnsley braved the cold and drizzle to take part in our BMX bike project.  The event was part of an ongoing project funded by Fair Share to work with local young people to develop their technical riding and maintenance skills and help them to use their bikes to have fun while getting great exercise.

Last week’s ‘drop-in’ session offered young people the chance to bring their bikes, scooters and skateboards for a free MOT, and to take part in a control skills competition to win a BMX bike.

The competition winner was Steven Setter (15), who was thrilled with his win and his new bike.  Steven said, ‘the project stops us from getting in trouble on the streets because we have activities to do’.  He added, ‘I’ve had a laugh and since it started I haven’t been in trouble with the police’.

We send our congratulations to Steven and all the group for their hard work and effort.
