Positive about youth at Silverstone

Hey all,

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Nigel Mansell, former F1 World Champion at the Silverstone Racing track. Obviously, what I mean by meet is take a picture of him from a far and get his autograph but still.

Nigel and a group of people including his two sons are finishing the final leg of a cycle challenge to raise money to support the Positive About Youth campaign. This campaign is all about changing the perceptions the general public have of young people. to find out more visit, http://nigelmansellcyclechallenge.co.uk/default.aspx or http://www.positiveaboutyouth.org/.

Anyway, back to yesterday and Silverstone. As guests at this event we watched three performances by young people from London who had applied for Think Big grants, (more info visit http://www.o2thinkbig.co.uk/). After this we got the opportunity to get onto the racing track and cycle round with Nigel and the other cyclists. IT WAS AMAZING!!

As a huge motor sport fan and especially F1 fan I was bound to find it amazing, being on the start line, in a grid spot and racing round the first corner in 4th gear. Of course this was considerably slower than in an F1 car but still lots of fun.

Nigell and the gang are trying to raise £1million for the Positive About Youth campaign and will be doing a number of other challenges where you will be able to go watch and sometimes take part in sports and activites. Keep an eye out on the websites above and don’t forget to pledge your support and donate to the Positive About Youth campaign.

Helen
