Time to change in Barnsley

Over the last few months, our combined Barnsley group of Latvian, Roma and white British young people have been working to promote equality and diversity in the town.

Using their natural talent for music and singing, with our help, they have worked on and produced a cover of Michael Jackson’s classic ‘Man In The Mirror’ with a young person’s twist.  We have supported the young people in developing their ideas by putting on workshops to look at stereotyping, equality and diversity, and understanding the cultures of other people within their community.

The young people have also designed and produced a hoodie with the slogan ‘TIME TO CHANGE EVERYBODY IS EQUAL’ that they will use in the dance routine they have been practicing over that last few weeks.  They will also be producing a music video to raise awareness of equality and diversity issues and publishing it on social media.  The public will also be able to download their Michael Jackson cover from iTunes from next week.

In the New Year the young people will be visiting local groups and organisations to promote greater cultural inclusion in the wider community.
