After a summer of powerful workshops exploring feminism, women’s health and empowerment, a group of young women from Barnsley marked the culmination of their journey with a challenging hike to the historic 1948 B-29 “Overexposed” crash site on Bleaklow in the Peak District. Delivered through the Her Future programme, this final adventure symbolised everything the group had worked toward: resilience, strength, and solidarity.
Across rugged terrain and under open skies, the young women pushed themselves physically and emotionally – sharing laughter, stories, and a growing sense of pride in who they are and what they stand for. As part of Barnsley Youth Alliance and funded through the Great Childhood Ambition, the Her Future programme supports young women to grow in confidence, challenge inequality, and believe in their power to shape the future. This hike wasn’t just a walk in the hills – it was a declaration of courage, connection, and change.
