At a time when too many young lives are being lost to violence, our StreetSafe initiative stands as a vital line of defence.
Designed to reach young people in the spaces where traditional services can’t (on the streets, in parks and community hubs) StreetSafe builds trust, offers challenge and sparks change. This week, as it was Knife Crime Awareness Week, the message across Leeds, Wakefield and Barnsley was clear: awareness saves lives.
Our youth workers delivered a powerful series of Knife Crime Awareness Workshops, bringing honest conversations and creative expression into the heart of local communities. Young people shared raw reflections, explored why some carry knives, and learned practical ways to stay safe. From t-shirt messages in East Leeds to expressive art in South Leeds and from video campaigns in Wakefield to street-corner workshops in Barnsley, their voices carried urgency and hope. The impact was not just in the learning – it was in the leadership shown by young people themselves.
This week was a powerful reminder of what happens when young people are supported, listened to and seen. They don’t just receive support – they become the message.
